Hukkuneet (The Drowned)

Art direction and book design. The Mediterranean Sea is the largest mass grave in Europe. Over 30.000 people have perished while attempting to cross the sea. Those bodies that are found are tagged with a code, but each one was also someone's child, father or mother. Hukkuneet (The Drowned) is a book about those who went missing and the traces they left behind.

The List of Deaths, used in the book cover and the following 20 pages, is by the NGO United for Intercultural Action. United keeps updating the list of deaths that can be attributed to the fatal policies of Fortress Europe. Through the link you can also make a donation to support their work. (2019)
